BIO

Catie Olson is multi-disciplinary artist born in Decatur, Illinois, the pleasant home of two chicken cars. She received her BS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995 in Agriculture, ventured to Chicago and received her BFA at the School of the Art Institute in 2000. She often works multi-disciplinary and with focus on interactive kinetic sculptures and sound.

Additionally, Catie has four regular DJ residencies including Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar, Analogue, the Burlington & the Emporium Arcade Bar. DJ catieo spins a wide range of ecclectic and energetic tunes. Catie organizes SpiderBug, a mobile short film festival which has an upcoming screening at Terrain Art Gallery with a live acoustic and electronic orchestra. She also organizes Floor Length and Tux, a domestic art space. She has shown work in Chicago including Heaven, The Garfield Park Conservatory, The Franklin, Swimming Pool, Antena Gallery, and Defibrillator Performance Gallery.

Mixes from a vast array of music samples and recorded sounds are layered, modified and compiled together to portray parts of the nonsense poem by Lewis Carroll, Jabberwocky, from 1872. These recordings will be whimsical, strange and captivating, In addition Catie Olsen will create a small drawing to pair with each radio set.
